Protection of the environment is integral to our activities and we believe that raw materials should be used efficiently and responsibly to achieve this.


Environmental Policy


British Sugar will seek to:

Prevent pollution and meet or exceed compliance levels for all appropriate environmental legislation relating to the activities of the company.

Maximise the efficient use of our raw materials.

Minimise waste generation through reducing, re-using and recycling raw materials.

Demonstrate best practice and continuous improvement in:  

  • water abstraction
  • water utilisation
  • waste water treatment
  • water discharge
 
Reduce our use of fossil fuels and their associated greenhouse gas emissions.

Increase our utilisation of renewable energy.

Invest responsibly in site demolition and site remediation to ensure land is made suitable for new development, giving due consideration to species conservation and habitat protection in all activities and decision-making.

Maintain a regular open dialogue with appropriate legislative bodies and stakeholder groups.

Share and support best environmental practice in our own supply chain and with third party contractors, including beet growers and our hauliers.

Assess and authorise significant people, plant and process changes in advance to prevent unacceptable environmental impacts.
