British Sugar's factories receive 2009 safety awards from RoSPA

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents Occupational Health and Safety Awards have announced their annual winners and British Sugar's factories were among the companies honoured with the prestigious awards.

RoSPA awards are given to companies and organisations for protecting the health and wellbeing of their employees. Judging criteria include measures of occupational health and safety management ‘input’ such as the level of development of systems and culture; measures of health and safety management ‘output’ such as consistent application of risk control measures; and measures of ‘outcome’ such as reductions in near misses, notifiable injuries, the number of days lost, accident and ill health costs etc. Account is also taken of an entrant’s enforcement record.

British Sugar has received a number of awards from RoSPA this year, including a Silver Award for Bury St Edmunds factory, the President's award for Cantley factory and an Order of Distinction for both Newark and Wissington factory sites.

Gino De Jaegher, Managing Director of British Sugar UK, said of the award, "Nothing is more important to us at British Sugar than ensuring the health, safety and welfare of our employees at work and others who may be affected by our activities. I am therefore delighted that the hard work and dedication of our factory teams has been honoured in this way."
